Practical Tattooing Application

Tattoo Design, Application and Equipment

12 weeks - 2 days per week  

Prerequisite: Tattoo Portfolio

Building on theory and design from the online course, students will  further develop their tattoo portfolio as well as explore technical tattooing processes and tattoo equipment will be explored in depth.

Students will transition to the practical application of tattoos on fake skin with supervision and oversight by a mentor.

Each week will consist of:

6 hours of instruction and observation by mentor at the shop

3 or more hours shop help, observing, practicing sanitation, and client management  

After competing this phase, students will be eligible to move on to part 3 of the apprenticeship program.





Course Objectives

Students will: 

  • Expand their tattoo design portfolio.

  • Designing for the body

  • Placing stencils & client positioning

  • Tattoo Machines, needles and other equipment education and practice

  • Client Management; consultation, aftercare, scheduling, pricing

  • Tattoo techniques; lining, shading, stippling, color packing, black and grey

  • Artificial skin practice

  • Common mistakes
