Drawing and Design For Tattooing & Tattoo Shop Basics

Phase 1 of the Alchemy Tattoo Collective Apprenticeship is an online, self-paced course designed to give serious aspiring artists a solid foundation in tattoo design. It covers 12 structured modules focused on drawing fundamentals, tattoo design, line work, shading, composition, equipment, and industry standards for health and safety.

Students learn professional shop procedures and daily work habits expected in real-world studios. Completion of this phase is required before applying for in-person training but doesn’t guarantee placement — eligibility is based on portfolio quality, progress, and fit for the shop’s standards.

After competing this online course, students will be eligible to move on to part 2 of the apprenticeship program.

Course Objectives

Students will: 

• Develop an art portfolio for use as a tattoo artist while practicing fundamental tattoo art and design skills to launch your career as a tattoo artist

• Get an in depth look at the tattoo industry, what it’s like to work at a shop, and how to become your own boss

• Learn client management, marketing & customer relationships to build your personal brand as an artist.

• Learn shop sanitation practices and guidelines

• Learn about the equipment variations such as machines and needles and what the appropriate applications are.

• Understand tattoo drawing industry tools; digital and analog

• Practical application of designs on paper using colored pencil, microns/markers
